Empathy – Feeling for others: On the development and loss of compassion

What takes place in the brain while this is going on and what role does socialization play? Our guest is scientist Tania Singer, who investigates the phenomenon of empathy on a neuroscientific level. She will report on her research projects and findings.

When economists break the rules

They had the right idea at the right time: Ten years ago, in August 1999, Ernst Fehr and Klaus Schmidt's paper entitled "A Theory of Fairness, Competition, and Cooperation" appeared in the renowned "Quarterly Journal of Economics." The paper, which the researchers hardly believed themselves at first, shook the foundations of the economics community and has become one of the world's most frequently cited economic studies.
